I'm so scared of becoming like my mother?

Especially when it comes to having a child of my own someday. She was such a horrible, abusuve, angry, neglectful parent to me. And very vain, caring much to much oh how she looked and what others thought of her. She was (and is) impatient, selfish, and fowl mouthed. And her parenting style, or lackthereof, is the only one I've been exposed to. I'm eo afraid of turning into her, or raising a child the same way. My boyfriend wants kids one day, but I don't know if I'd be a good parent because of my mom. Her mother raised her the same way, and I really don't want to do the same. Will this happen to me?
